Many California Pistachio processors & handlers, representing almost half of the industry volume, have become signatories to the new California Pistachio Marketing Agreement. The California Pistachio Board was formed to assist the California Department of Food and Agriculture with administration of the new Agreement. We declare commitment to the following quality principles:
- To offer no product for sale that is a blend of naturally and artificially opened pistachios.
- To offer no product for sale that has been bleached.
- To offer only open inshell pistachios or kernels for export to Australia, Canada, the European Union, Norway, Switzerland, Japan or New Zealand that have been tested in accordance with the respective importing country’s aflatoxin regulations.
- To require all aflatoxin testing to be performed by a United States Department of Agriculture accredited laboratory and to provide a documented aflatoxin certificate.
